SO, TELL US ABOUT YOU. WHAT ARE YOUR PASSIONS?
I've always been very passionate about art and exploring many different creative outlets. Since I was young, the yearning to create has never really left me. I'm also very passionate about community and our youth especially young people of color. I strongly believe that investing in our youth is one of the most important things we can do as a community. I've really enjoyed participating in various mentoring programs in the city.
How would you describe your everyday look?
I have a pretty hectic schedule. I am a full time student, a part time graphic design intern, I mentor to middle schoolers, I freelance, and I'm an emerging ceramicist so my look truly depends on what I'm up to each day. My style is very eclectic though so it's easy for me to transition from levis and a band tee to a silk sack dress whenever I need to.
DO YOU HAVE ANY COOL PROJECTS THAT YOU ARE WORKING ON?
Despite my fast paced life, I'm always making room for a fun project. Some things that I'm working on currently are ceramics which I successfully sold out of at the recent Columbus Flea, I tried my hand at making deodorant recently, and I've been considering going back to my roots and drawing by hand to create a body of illustration work.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL SPOTS TO HANGOUT?
Mission Coffee Shop is the first place that comes to mind. I love getting work done there over a cappuccino. Their staff is the best too! I also really love the Blind Lady Tavern for a good mezcal cocktail. It was a hidden gem for awhile, but the word has recently gotten out about that place. This one is kind of lame, but I sort of live at the downtown library. It has recently been renovated and is so beautiful inside so I can be found there studying as well. Finally, I can't forget about One Six Five. It's definitely one of my favorite local spots to go to for inspiration!
IF YOU WERE AN ARTICLE OF CLOTHING, WHAT WOULD YOU BE AND WHY?
I would definitely be a leather jacket because they are timeless, look better as they get older, and go with anything. I own way too many leather jackets.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE SELF-LOVE?
As an introvert, having such a chaotic schedule can be very draining. Some ways that I practice self love is by doing things that I love such as painting, reading, or simply going on a walk. Setting boundaries for myself has become very important to me; If I don't get the time to myself to recharge then I can't be my best self. Everyone should figure out what practicing self love means for them.
Lalese is currently raising money for a month of study abroad in London!
